UAW 588 Endorse's Miranda Egonut For Mayor of Steger

Steger, Illinois - Miranda Egonut, candidate for the Steger Village President seat, gained the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local Union 588. Based in Chicago Heights, Illinois, UAW Local Union 588 represents several workers in the area, who are primarily Ford employees.

After receipt of the official endorsement letter, Miranda said, “It is a proud day to be recognized by Local 588 as the best candidate for Mayor on April 7th. I feel a sense of vindication that Steger will do very well under my leadership and hope that this helps the voters who trust the voice of labor to cast their trust for me.”

On March 19, 2009, UAW Local Union 588's executive board, lead by president Bill Jackson, voted unanimously to support Mrs. Egonut's candidacy for the Steger Village President position. Mr. Jackson stated, "We appreciate your support of working men and women and look forward to continuing to work with you in the future."

Miranda also said, “Labor is the backbone of our economy and is the quickest road to recovery in these trying financial times. To empower labor is to empower all of us. To protect labor is paramount. I pledge to find solutions to Steger’s own financial woes through partnerships with the working taxpayer, the small businessman and the large businesses in the region to create opportunity for the unemployed and better opportunity for the underemployed.”
